Design Basic Index: Typography: Word Portraits Exercise
This exercise helps any designer and viewer appreciate the beauty of different fonts and the message they portray. As stated in Design Basics Index by Krause, "every category has its place in the designers arsenal"(p. 236). So basically its down to the designer to chose which font will deliver the message and to which audience because this important. Different audiences would require different fonts. Below are screen shots for some of the words with different fonts.
The second activity is from White space is not your enemy by Rebecca Hagen and Kim Golombisky. I chose activity #2 where I got different photos from the link www.loc.gov/rr/print and this work can be accessed through this link:
Mini Art School: Elements and Principles of design
Hi Theo,
ReplyDeleteI really liked this activity. It made me think twice about typography and to pay closer attention to font faces. By the way, my favorite is the “weave intertwine” and “separate” analysis because the two descriptions of the font face truly contradict each other.
